To begin with, I propose to watch the video instruction and, if something remains unclear, below all the steps are described in great detail in text format. Including there are some comments on typical errors when setting up the router and the reasons for which the Internet may be unavailable.
Connecting the router to configure
Despite the fact that connecting the router is not so difficult, just in case, I will stop at this point. On the back of the router there are five ports, one of which is blue (WAN, Internet) and four others are yellow (LAN).
The Beeline ISP cable should be connected to the WAN port.
I recommend setting up the router itself via a wired connection, it will save you from many possible problems. To do this, connect one of the LAN ports on the router to the network card connector of the computer or laptop with the included cable.
Before you configure ASUS RT-N12
Some things that will also contribute to the successful configuration and reduce the number of issues related to it, especially for novice users:
- Neither during the setup nor after it, do not start the Beeline connection on the computer (the one that was usually used to access the Internet), otherwise, the router will not be able to establish the necessary connection. Internet after setting will work without running Beeline.
- Better if you configure the router via a wired connection. And connect via Wi-Fi when everything is set up.
- Just in case, go to the connection settings used to communicate with the router, and make sure that the TCP / IPv4 protocol settings are set to 'Obtain an IP address automatically and get the DNS address automatically.' To do this, press the Win + R keys on the keyboard (the Win key with the Windows logo) and enter the command ncpa.cpl, then press Enter. Select from the list of connections the one through which you are connected to the router, for example 'Local Area Connection', right-click on it and select 'Properties'. Then - see the picture below.
How to enter the router settings
Plug the router into a power outlet after you have taken into account all the above recommendations. After this, two variants of events are possible: nothing will happen, or a page will open like in the image below. (At the same time, if you have already been on this page, it will open somewhat differently, immediately proceed to the next section of the instruction). If, like me, this page will be in English, you cannot change the language at this stage.
If it does not open automatically, launch any browser and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press Enter. If you see the login and password request, enter admin and admin in both fields (the specified address, login and password are written on the sticker below ASUS RT-N12). Again, if you are on the wrong page that I mentioned above, go straight to the next section of the manual.
